Coffee in China “Shangrila Farm”

June 21, 2012 in Beijing Shopping, Food, Health

Being from Seattle, Washington one of the hardest adjustments when coming to China wasn’t getting on a subway with hundreds of people, it wasn’t trying to learn the Mandarin language, it was trying to find a decent cup of coffee. As bad as it sounds my days where becoming less and less efficient without my daily cup of coffee and then out nowhere I was introduced to an intern from Shangrila Farms.

Also being from the states he totally understood where I was coming from and told me that the company he is interning for makes a line of organic coffee that is quite up to par. Shangrila Farm’s you are my light in the Darknessssss!

“Shangrila Farms want to bring the concept of an organic and healthy life style to people in China. This is the dream that started Shangrila Farms.”

IKEA Cafeteria in Beijing, China

May 29, 2012 in Beijing Shopping

I was told by my Swedish friend, Robert, that the IKEA in Beijing was the most profitable fastest selling IKEA in the world. When you go into an IKEA it’s absolutely crazy to see how many people are inside. Check out this video to see what an IKEA cafeteria in China looks like in China. If you would like to see

For anyone interested in going to IKEA for shopping or for lunch here is the map below. After you have finished with IKEA, it’s highly recommend finding a taxi outside on the fourth ring road.

How to Buy Ginseng? From a random man in Deshengmen

April 10, 2012 in Beijing Shopping, DIY, Health, Markets

Ginseng Roots

Last week, we found this Chinese man selling Ginseng at the Sihuan Market (四环综合市场). He had different types, some were super expensive while others were affordable. We bought two Ginseng roots for about 40 RMB ($6). I like taking Ginseng for the energy effect. If you grade some of the root into a cup and seep it in hot water, you can make a potent energy tonic. Our friend Sun said that if you take too much wild Ginseng, you can get sick or die. I was reading earlier and found that Ginseng contains saponins, which can be toxic in high quantities. I guess she was right after all. I am pretty sure that the Ginseng we bought was farmed and not wild, so I am not too worried.

莱太花卉市场 Laitai Plant & Pet Market

Beijing, China

Directions to Laitai Plant Market

Laitai Market is a great place to find indoor plants and small pets. We recently had a social activity with My China Opportunity and explored the market.

Beware of plant pests! When buying plants thoroughly inspect your plant, to make sure you don’t bring any unwanted creatures home. I had a white fly invasion, which infected EVERYTHING. I now add worm castings (worm poop), into all of my potted plants. It somehow deters white flies and also makes your plants stronger. A natural fertilizer!
